Snapshot: Colleen, Terri, and Katie
The fourth in a four-week series celebrating mothers and daughters
Colleen, what is something you have learned from your mother?
One of the most impactful things my mom has taught my siblings and me is the value of honesty with one’s self. Reckoning with life’s mistakes and shortcomings with grace and forgiveness is not easy, but it is freeing. My mom has taught me to take chances, do the scariest thing first, have courageous conversations, and build relationships rooted in trust. My mom has been the most formative person in my life. I deeply admire her and I know I can come to her with anything life has to give.
(She also taught me to fold a fitted sheet super tight.)

Katie, what is something you have learned from your mother?
One of the many lessons my mom has taught me is the power of positivity. Sporting a smile and maintaining a cheerful demeanor not only lifts my own spirits, but those around me. My mom and I both suffer from “resting friendly face” which often leads to long conversations with strangers in the grocery store; but I wouldn't want it any other way. My mother's ability to take a difficult situation and make the best of it has cultivated a resilience in me, for which I will always be grateful. Embracing positivity has become a guiding force, empowering me to navigate life's twists and turns with grace and fortitude, just like my mom always has.

Terri, what have you learned from your daughters?
My daughters, Colleen and Katie, each have their own unique gifts. But they also share some special gifts that show me how good, happy humans behave. First of all, they’re both really funny! They can make me laugh or smile, especially when I need it most! Best therapy ever!
They also have a gift for meeting people where they are. They’re great listeners. This gives them the ability to engage people easily, no matter the person nor the topic. I have learned from them to stop, listen, and try not to control a situation.
Thanks, girls, for being you! I love you!
